The programme is taught in Slovene. Free Slovene language courses are organised for foreign students.
Telecommunications are one of the most promising areas and rapidly evolving sectors, due to the fact that connectivity is the foundation of modern technologies, such as the Internet of Things – IoT.

Masters of telecommunications engineering contribute to a high value added. With their in-depth knowledge and a capacity for autonomous work, they have good employment opportunities in economic and non-economic sectors, both in Slovenia and abroad.
Broadcast systems
The students first acquire a rather detailed knowledge of electromagnetic waves, on which all modern telecommunications are based. They upgrade their knowledge by learning about the operation of analog and digital broadcast systems, encodings, modulations, by building their own antennas, and by performing practical measurements.

LTE and 5G
The transition from the existing LTE mobile networks to 5G networks provides unprecedented development opportunities for technologies that will enable broadband access in densely populated areas, higher user mobility, mass Internet of Things (IoT), real-time and life-critical communications. The students get acquainted with a wide range of wireless and mobile networks and their planning.

Intelligent ambients
An intelligent ambient is an upgrading of simple smart home automation. The system captures and analyses the information from the user environment, media contents and user contents, and makes predictions about and adapts the user environment by applying Artificial Intelligence. A virtual assistant can take care about the communication with the user.

Nowadays, mobile applications are the most common type of user sofware – from simple accessories to complex applications which include different mobile phone sensors and connect together with other devices into the Internet of Things (IoT). The students learn about the building blocks of the mobile ecosystem and how to effectively develop mobile applications.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of interconnected electronic devices, machines, objects, animals, or people, with the capability of transporting information over a network. The IoT technology represents the convergence of communications technologies, electronics, microcomputer systems and micro-electro-mechanical systems. The interconnected smart devices use embedded processors, sensors and communications equipment. They collect, send and act upon data acquired from their environment, other related devices or cloud services.

The transmission of all types of data, including speech and video, in the form of IP packets has opened endless possibilities for new communication services, which make it easier for people to communicate at home and at the workplace, or can even save lives. The students get acquainted with and learn how to use the technologies for the development of such services.

Študij mi je všeč, ker je ob predavanjih veliko praktičnih vaj, ki naredijo študij še bolj zanimiv. Spoznala sem, da se v laboratorijih ukvarjajo z zelo zanimivimi področji, in všeč mi je, da se lahko tudi mi, študentke in študenti, pridružimo delu v različnih projektih.

Za študij telekomunikacij sem se odločila, ker obeta dobre zaposlitvene možnosti. Večina predmetov je problemsko naravnanih in spodbuja inženirski način razmišljanja. Profesorji in asistenti so vedno dostopni za diskusije in odprti za nove ideje študentov. Ob zaključku študija vidim, da sem pridobila veliko uporabnega znanja.
